Cowboys get QB Kitna, sign LB Brooking (AP)

The Dallas Cowboys took care of one of their top offseason priorities Saturday when they acquired quarterback Jon Kitna as the likely backup for Tony Romo. Dallas also signed free-agent linebacker Keith Brooking to a three-year contract. Brooking, released Friday by Atlanta, played all 11 of his NFL seasons with the Falcons and was the last remaining player from their Super Bowl team a decade ago.

WR Houshmandzadeh visiting Vikings (AP)

Free agent wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh is visiting the Minnesota Vikings. Houshmandzadeh was scheduled to arrive in Minnesota on Saturday to meet with team officials. He just made a trip to Seattle to check out the Seahawks, and the Bengals have an offer on the table to keep him in Cincinnati. In a relatively weak market for receivers, Houshmandzadeh is the prize at his position.

Cowboys acquire QB Kitna to back up Romo (AP)

The Dallas Cowboys have acquired quarterback Jon Kitna to back up Tony Romo. The Cowboys sent cornerback Anthony Henry to Detroit in Saturday’s trade. Kitna finished the 2008 season on injured reserve because of a back injury and was not expected to return to the Lions. He is due a $1 million roster bonus March 3.

Vikings re-sign TE Kleinsasser (AP)

Tight end Jim Kleinsasser has re-signed with the Minnesota Vikings for a $9 million, three-year contract. The deal was finished Saturday, giving Kleinsasser $3.5 million guaranteed and keeping the North Dakota native in line to finish his career with his favorite team from childhood. Kleinsasser was a second-round draft pick in 1999 and has become one of the league’s most rugged blockers.

Texans sign DE Antonio Smith from Cards (AP)

The Houston Texans have signed free agent defensive end Antonio Smith. Smith appeared in each regular season game and started three of four playoff games for the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals last season. The Texans, who announced the deal Saturday, needed someone to start opposite 2006 top overall pick Mario Williams after releasing Anthony Weaver earlier this week.

Giants sign LB Boley for 5 years, $25M (AP)

The New York Giants bolstered their defense Saturday, signing former Atlanta Falcons linebacker Michael Boley to a five-year, $25 million contract. The 26-year-old Boley is excellent in pass coverage and he is expected to be given a shot at winning the weakside job. The change of scenery also should be good for Boley.

Rams agree to deal with Ravens C Brown (AP)

The St. Louis Rams and Ravens center Jason Brown have agreed to terms of a free agent deal. The Rams scheduled a 5 p.m. EST afternoon news conference to introduce Brown, a key player in the rebuilding of their offensive line. Terms were not immediately available. Brown and Giants safety James Butler both made visits to Rams Park on Friday, the first day of free agency.

Niners give WR Brandon Jones $16.5M deal (AP)

Receiver Brandon Jones has agreed to join the San Francisco 49ers, getting a five-year contract worth $16.5 million. Jones spent his first four NFL seasons with Tennessee, where he caught 41 passes for 449 yards and a touchdown last season. He was hampered by significant injuries in two of his four seasons, including a groin injury that limited him to nine games in 2007.
